Gail Berry creates some extra pieces for Corniche

Gail Berry has created four extra pieces for Corniche, three dresses and a faux leather coat. This images do not really convey how lovely these pieces are. The silver grey dress is quite spectacular, using the most lovely lace and layer after layer (7 in total) of underdress. The toffee, amber, yellow lace dress is very sexy and beautifully fitted, whilst remaining elegant and extremely stylish. The Keyhole Diva dress in red is double layered, very fitted and slinky, a real head turner. The faux leather coat in chestnut coloured vinyl is great, fitted and beautifully lined. see more

Rundholz we managed to get some extra pieces

Many thanks to Michaela, Tina and Nani at Rundholz who managed to find us a few extra pieces for this season. So we have some more of the floaty net print dresses, the tulip style print and the very loose print over dress. We also have the aqua and white coloured dress in and the jersey dress with print and t-shirt skirt in Purple, which is more raspberry in our opinion. You can see them at Rundholz Shop

Why I love Nigel Cabourn

Just every once in a while you come across a designer, or a designer evolves into something really special. By some quirk of fate or trait of character they manage to escape the corporate homogeneity, that infects the fashion industry at all levels. When clothing is designed with passion and a total love for the ideas that inspire, when the fabrics are produced with equal attention and care and when each garment is manufactured with a profound desire to do it right to the very highest standards then magic can actually be seen. To achieve all this a clothes designer must know what they want and how to achieve it. They must have an obsession for each part of the process, from the drawingboard to the finished hanging garment. When this happens the clothes become something more than just clothes, they live and breath. Very few and I really mean very few achieve this.

Nigel Cabourn Studio

Nigel Cabourn has been designing clothes in various incarnations for decades and always with a real love of the craft. Since launching his Authentic label (Made in UK) and Mainline (Made in Japan) a few years ago he has encapulated all that is great in clothing with an appeal that crosses the boundaries of age and style. Each garment feels unique and special. Those who wear Nigel’s clothing know what I am talking about, there is very little to compare.

I used to say that Yohji Yamamoto was beyond fashion and in many ways that was true. This can easily be said about Nigel’s clothing, however I suspect even more so as each piece is eminently wearable for everyday use.

So it doesn’t take much to realise I am a real fan of Nigel Cabourn, I love his clothes, his attitude, his attention to detail, his obsessions and what more he is a great guy to know. May he continue to produce the finest clothing around. visit Nigel Cabourn shop

Gail Berry latest pieces arrive

Gail Berry 2012 Spring Summer

Nina and Lorna really enjoyed getting together with Gail to go over her latest offerings and as ever, each piece is brilliant. Gail has a real flair for designing, elegant yet very sexy, feminine clothing. When I spoke to them over the phone it seemed more like a party than anything else, it is great when people love what they do.

The new pieces have arrived, or at least most of them and I believe Gail is doing some special pieces for later in the year just for us.

The lace dresses with frou-frou underskirts are superb, the lace is stunning. Look out for the Ballerina Skirt in caramel lace, this would make even a black plastic bag on top into a great outfit, put it with the pink velvet top or tan stretch top and it is magnificent and fun.

The Diva Dresses come in 2 styles and in soft pink and red, the double fabric gives these garments real substance and are just about guaranteed to turn every head. I say just about, because you never know someone might be very short sighted.

Gail’s use of faux-leather can also be found in the sexy pencil skirts, with zips full length down the back and the gilet, this season with embroidered Chinese silk panels to the front.

All in all a really nice individual collection, highly recommended.

High 2012 Spring Summer Collection

Ever since Claire Campbell waved goodbye to Marithe and Francois Girbaud to become the designer behind the wonderful HIGH collection, she has not failed to impress each season. Spring Summer 2012 is no exception and her beautifully designed and tailored pieces make this a collection to remember.

There can be little doubt that Claire Campbell is a hugely talented designer and the attention to details is at times inspiring. The spring summer 2012 collection contains wonderful soft leathers in fitted zip jackets, leather coats with diagonal fastening and all the design we have come to expect from a HIGH collection, pointed hems and ruchable seams. Mixed fabric jackets and tops in washed out, antique style fabrics. Jeans, which can be worn cropped with checked fabric turn ups or full length. Dresses that ouse a subtle sex and style and tops along the lines of the chic country milkmaid.

Looking to Autumn Winter 2012 – Nigel Cabourn

I know we have only just started to see the Spring/Summer collections coming into the shops, but, as you are aware, the fashion world is always running ahead of itself, in more ways than one. As a result most shops will have already viewed and ordered much of their Autumn/Winter collections. Nina and Lorna are off down to London tomorrow viewing the Vivienne Westwood, Gail Berry, High (Claire Campbell) and Peddled collections, before heading over the channel to Paris next week.
My greatest pleasure has been visiting Nigel Cabourn to view his Winter collection and as ever it never fails to impress. Living in the Scottish Borders makes visiting Nigel a nice easy excursion, it being little more than a drive of an hour or so (bliss). A visit to Nigel’s studio is something both Nina and myself look forward to, not only because of the clothing, but it is great to see the team, even when Drew is showing off a new hair cut! The team had just returned from a triumphant visit to Bread and Butter in Berlin, where the reproduction of Captain Scott’s Arctic Hut proved to be a major draw, with the wood sides proving the ideal background against which to display the clothes.

The windows in Nigel’s Garden Studio let in lots of light and the whole ambience displays the new collections perfectly and this visit was no different. The immediate response on arriving is ‘Wow this is great’, the colours and textures of the hanging garments are a notable display in themselves. This is one of the few collections we see that I can honestly say impresses from the moment you walk through the door.

At Bread & Butter Berlin part of the Captain Scott collection

As you are probably aware there is more than one collection, the British made Authentic line, the Japanese mainline and for winter a large collection in collaboration with Eddie Bauer. There is also a limited edition collection designed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of Captain Scott and his colleagues. This limited edition collection is excellent and, whilst quite small, there is something to entice just about anyone and, as ever, the quality is excellent, this is being made available to a limited number of outlets.

The pieces that immediately come back to my mind are a dramatic sheepskin coat with longhaired goat collar, a fantastic army great coat in different fabrics, boiled wool Harris Tweed jackets and trousers, wonderful shirts, incredible knitwear and sooooooo much more.

Deliveries of Comme des Garcons Perfume Arrive

The Comme des Garcons and Artek collaboration Standard Eau de Toilette

Phew! at last we received deliveries of the Comme des Garcons perfumes. We were starting to panic as we were fast running out of just about all of them. However, no problem now. A bit of bad news, the wonderful Garage fragrance from the Synthetic range Series 6 has been discontinued, I think we received the last supplies in our last order. This is a real shame as we sell it well and it is very popular with customers throughout the World. Supplies of No 3 have been delayed and will not be available now until sometime in 2012. Supplies of Play have also run out, but may be available in December, but do not hold your breath, at least we have some in stock at the moment.

We have introduced into our collection the collaboration with Artek, the cult Finnish design company founded by Alvar Aalto, The scent named Standard, an Eau de Toilette 100ml natural spray, is wonderful and whilst it has many of the Comme des Garcons Anti-Perfume characteristics, it is a wonderfully complex scent, fresh with distinctive edges and depths.
