Vivienne Westwood
Vivienne Westwood
What can be said about Vivienne Westwood that has not already been said. Love her, or hate her (believe it or not, some people arn't too keen), no one can deny the impact Vivienne Westwood has had on fashion in the UK and around the world. Having met Malcolm McLaren, Westwood ended a promising teaching career and entered the then rollercoaster of British fashion. Mclaren opened a shop on the Kings Road, now owned by Westwood, calling it "Let it Rock" (aka. Sex, Too fast to live too young to die, Seditionaries). It was from here that Vivienne began to sell her clothing, she still owns this shop at 430 King's Road, London now known as "World's End", selling her Anglomania label from there. The Sex Pistols wore clothing from the shop for their first gig. Vivienne Westwood mixed traditional fabrics, like tartans, with the outrageous punk style, with dramatic effect. Working together Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren caused a dramatic change in fashion, these changes can still be seen throughout fashion today.
Vivienne Westwood in addition to her haute couture clothing, has 3 womens labels and 1 for men. For women Gold, Red and Anglomania, for men the aptly named Man. Much of Vivienne's clothing is based on historic styles and is dramatically tailored for maximum impact. For those who think that Vivienne's clothing is unwearable, think again! it is eminently wearable and will turn many a tawdry moon into a shining star. Like I said at the start, What can be said, lets leave it at, Vivienne Westwood a true fashion hero!
