Issey Miyake 1970's petrol blue, pleated, cropped legged, zip play suit. This is an important garment from one of Issey Miyake's early collections. Bought in the mid-1970's directly from Miyake's catwalk show in Tokyo, Japan by Nina's brother Bill and sent directly to Nina at the Corniche shop. Nina loved it so much she didn't want to sell it and as such it has been in covered storage since the mid-70s. Heavily pleated, with raw edge seams between throughout and with slightly lighter coloured triangular, double layered insets. Double layered round neck with pleats and raw edged seams, with inner button and outer button fastening. Blue zip with covering placket down the front to the waist. Triangular insets on shoulders and yoke. Pleated 'V" shaped insets at each side with pockets hidden in pleats. The garment has a folded up hem with the fabric folding down again into shorts (very clever), maintaining the pleats throughout. The sleeves cuffs have a blue panel with raw edged frill below, inside behind the blue panel is a similar green panel. The hems on the shorts have a blue panels with raw edging below forming a short frill. There is a green panel inside, behind the outer blue panel.

Made in Japan around 1974-1975. This piece is unworn and has the original Issey Miyake label and a very faint garment No. EP77111 (we think). A superb piece that deserves to be in a museum of design or part of a loved collection. Exceptional and extremely rare and in wonderful condition. It has no size on the label, but we think it would be a small to medium, the chest and shoulder size is more fitted and the body very generous to give a wonderful shape.
